Not only the United States, but much of the world is having to contend with the new economic policy imposed by the Donald Trump administration. Sky-high tariffs have already begun to impact domestic production.
In recent hours, Haas Automation has released a press statement revealing it is facing a significant drop in demand for its machinery, both from American and foreign customers.
All of this is due to the tariffs imposed by the Trump government, which has also forced the American giant to reduce production at its plant in Oxnard, California—leading to an inevitable financial loss.
According to Haas’ most catastrophic projections, losses could reach 5 billion dollars if tariffs on machine tools from certain countries are reduced without a corresponding reduction in tariff rates for raw materials and components imported into the United States. This could put the 1,700 workers employed at the Oxnard factory at risk.
For this reason, Haas Automation has explicitly asked the government to reconsider certain decisions regarding customs tariffs and to try to avoid potential disastrous consequences for the company. In light of this statement, the Haas Formula 1 team has sought to clarify its position, stating that what is happening to Haas Automation will have no impact on the team led by Ayao Komatsu.
The American team has its own business operations and, as of today, there are no changes in planning, development, recruitment, or other projects. A team spokesperson stated: “I just want to inform you that the statement released today by Haas Automation regarding customs tariffs and the Donald Trump administration has no impact on the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team. As far as the team is concerned, things are proceeding as usual and there are no changes in our development plan, recruitment process, or other projects.”
