The excellent performance of Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc and the good pace shown by Carlos Sainz at Silverstone have given confidence to the Maranello team’s fans, who now see the goal of third place in the constructors’ standings as possible. The work done by the Italian side in understanding the problems seems to be starting to pay off and the issues shown at Paul Ricard circuit in managing the tires have not reappeared. All this taking into consideration the impossibility of significantly intervening on the car this season, especially the structure of certain parts of SF21 car. German automobile magazine ‘Auto, Motor und Sport’ analyzed the progress of Scuderia Ferrari in the last three races:
“Up to now, Ferrari had proved to be very competitive on street circuits and struggled on tracks that stress the front tires. But the Maranello team almost won at Silverstone, thanks to a good analysis of the tire problems and the heat. […] Ferrari had already completed the two Austrian races, even if the result was not evident due to the start from the lower part of the grid. […] Even Sainz could have shone if he had not had the contact with George Russell in Sprint Qualifying. In the race he was much faster but could not pass Daniel Ricciardo, due to the ‘usual’ lack of top speed. […] Charles Leclerc explained: “We don’t have all the answers yet. When we understand everything, we will take a big step forward ”. […] The heat helped at Silverstone. The high temperatures of the asphalt and the fast corners meant that the temperatures of the tread and the tire carcass did not differ too much. […] In the SF21 project, Ferrari could only improve a part of the car and chose the rear one, for aerodynamic reasons. For better handling of the front tires, the Italian side would have needed to change the front axle and rims, but the tokens had already been spent elsewhere. […].”
