Despite the challenges faced with Red Bull this year, 2024 still ended in the best possible way for Max Verstappen. The Dutchman secured his fourth world championship title and, as things stand, he will arrive at the winter tests in February as one of the favorites to win the 2025 Formula 1 championship.
Even though the Milton Keynes team has lost Adrian Newey and several key technical figures, the current staff has proven its resilience, bouncing back after a challenging mid-season. Max Verstappen’s performances at the end of the year, particularly in Brazil and Las Vegas, were remarkable, almost matching the level of dominance he displayed earlier in the season.
All the ingredients are there for an exciting 2025, but many are beginning to wonder how much longer Max will remain in Formula 1, especially after various clashes with the FIA regarding public conduct and language.
Marko: “Max’s dream is to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with his father”
Adding to this speculation are comments from Red Bull advisor and contract overseer Helmut Marko, who, according to ‘GPBlog.com,’ stated: “Max is a racing driver and loves to race. Of course, in Formula 1, everything is more amplified compared to other categories. There’s a lot of marketing, and the media presence is intense, which is why, sooner or later, he will want to move on to endurance racing.”
“Max’s dream is to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans alongside his father, Jos. He’s also currently involved in other projects, such as GT racing with Ferrari. He has already conducted tests with them and is providing advice to Thierry Vermeulen,” Dr. Marko concluded.
The test Marko referred to took place last year, in December, at the Portimão circuit. On that occasion, Max Verstappen drove a Ferrari 296 GT3, which you can read about here.
