New calendar, same races
Formula 1 has announced its calendar for the 2025 Formula 1 championship, which maintains the same number of rounds as the current season, 24, but arranges some races differently to accommodate the month of Ramadan in countries like Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. For this reason, the World Championship will start again in Australia, which has not been the season’s opening race location since 2019. However, when studying the dates of the individual GPs, another particular feature of next year’s program emerges: a sort of ‘double’ summer break has been included, as opposed to the traditional closure of activities which normally covered only the month of August.
Two ‘breaks’ in summer, but so many triple-headers
This year, three GPs will be held in July, while in 2025 there will only be two: on the 6th of the month at Silverstone, and on the 27th at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. Thus, there will be a three-week gap between the British and Belgian races. Then racing will resume on August 3rd in Hungary, followed by another stop, this time for four weeks – the ‘traditional’ factory closure – before restarting the last third of the season on August 31st at the Zandvoort circuit for the Dutch Grand Prix. The double break is designed to give a breather especially to the mechanics of the various teams, who will be engaged in a demanding schedule of 24 GPs and – at least – six Sprints, spanning from March 16 to December 6 with five ‘back-to-back’ races and even three triple-headers: Japan-Bahrain-Saudi Arabia; Imola-Monaco-Barcelona; Las Vegas-Qatar-Abu Dhabi.
