A new market rumor is shaking Formula 1: Max Verstappen could choose Ferrari in 2027. The Dutch driver, at Monza, opened the door to the possibility of moving to Italy. For Maranello, it would be, on paper, the perfect signing for the post-Hamilton era. According to Gian Carlo Minardi, something is starting to move in this direction. What remains to be understood is what role Charles Leclerc would have in case the four-time world champion signs.
There is no limit to the imagination of fans and insiders in Formula 1. The Lewis Hamilton deal, at the beginning of last season, in some way legitimized even the most unlikely dreams. If Ferrari managed to convince the seven-time British world champion, then it could also succeed with Max Verstappen.
The Dutch driver wants to win, and he has already made that clear. If the next Ferrari, the first of the new technical cycle, proves competitive, the deal would become easier. At Maranello, according to reports, the idea is starting to gain traction. They would also need to consider the fact that the Hasselt-born driver wants to try other disciplines and is heavily involved in sim racing. However, no mountain is too high to climb for the Prancing Horse.
Minardi optimistic: Ferrari is considering the Verstappen idea
Speaking in a video published by Motorsport.it, Gian Carlo Minardi said he was optimistic: “I believe Ferrari has moved in that direction. Then there are his own words, when he said he would only go where he can win, which is a negative signal. In recent months there have been many talks, hidden negotiations, without reaching anything. I say that everything is possible.”
“I think Ferrari is trying. After all, we saw an unfortunate comment from Toto Wolff towards his drivers, at the end of the [Monza GP], still praising Verstappen. Who, by the way, from what I know, was ordered from above to stop negotiating with him,” explained the Romagna entrepreneur.
“All the teams would like to have the best driver and, at this moment, regardless of the value of the car, that is Max Verstappen,” Minardi concluded.
