Oliver Bearman is facing his rookie season in Formula 1 with Haas. His teammate, Esteban Ocon, has also recently praised “the bear man,” calling him one of the best teammates he has ever had.
The first taste of the Ferrari dream
However, the 20-year-old’s dream is not to stay at Haas, but rather he hopes for a promotion to Ferrari. The British driver has already experienced the thrill of driving a Ferrari: in 2024 he was the reserve driver for both Ferrari and Haas, and replaced Carlos Sainz in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, finishing the race in an excellent seventh position. The driver also stepped in for Haas’ Kevin Magnussen during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and the São Paulo Grand Prix in Brazil, again delivering surprising results.
Having been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy for years, Bearman was asked if his ultimate goal was to race for the Scuderia with the Prancing Horse. He replied: “Of course it’s my goal in life. I had a taste of what it means last year and this is my motivation in life, I hope I can achieve it one day.”
Despite this being his deepest dream, the contract with Haas is not being overlooked. On the contrary, Bearman is fully focused on the project with the American team. On this matter he stated: “I’m focused on my things here, and there’s not much communication between me and Ferrari today. My job is to prove what I’m capable of, so that the teams have no choice but to pick me. That’s my task, to give my best. And it’s a long road, nothing changes overnight.”
The mentality of the young Briton is certainly heading in the right direction: giving his best, letting the teams notice him, and not rushing. He is aware of how long the path is, and that he must demonstrate his talent in order to become part of a top team.
“But there’s no rush, nothing like that. I’m focused on what I’m doing, trying to improve myself as I still see a lot of room for improvement. I need to bring out the best of me more consistently,” he concluded
