Charles Leclerc did not hold back his frustration after qualifying for the 2025 Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The Scuderia Ferrari driver ended the session in sixth place—a result that not only disappointed him, but also complicates Ferrari’s strategy and ambitions for Sunday’s race.
Following the session, Charles Leclerc admitted he is experiencing a particularly difficult period, especially when it comes to qualifying. The Monegasque driver explained that he is no longer able to find the same level of confidence and connection with the car that he had in the past.
Speaking openly in the immediate post-session interviews, Charles Leclerc delivered a blunt analysis of his situation:
“That mistake definitely cost me a spot on the front row, no doubt about it. But honestly, I’m getting tired of coming here and saying every time that something didn’t go right,” he said, visibly disappointed. “I’m just not finding the feeling I had maybe a year ago with the car during qualifying.”
Charles Leclerc Reveals a Serious, Untold Problem with the Ferrari SF-25
Charles Leclerc went on to explain that the issues are more complex than simple balance problems. According to the Ferrari driver, the SF-25 suffers from specific, deeper-rooted issues that make qualifying sessions particularly challenging.
“We’re dealing with problems that are very specific and make qualifying much harder. We know where they come from, and I believe we already have the solution,” Charles Leclerc stated.
When asked whether these solutions will be implemented through the next technical upgrades, Leclerc made it clear that the issue is not just about updates or new parts.
“No, there’s something else in the car that we’ve never talked about publicly—and honestly, it’s better that way. But we’re struggling with this issue. Hopefully, the solution will come soon.”
Charles Leclerc’s Self-Criticism: Qualifying Is No Longer a Strength
Despite pointing out technical concerns, Charles Leclerc also acknowledged his own shortcomings: “At the end of the day, I have to get the job done, and right now I’m not delivering in qualifying. For a while now, I’ve been doing a strong job in the race, but in qualifying I don’t think I’m performing at the level I expect of myself,” he said. “That used to be one of my biggest strengths, but at the moment I’m struggling a lot with it.”
Expectations Shift After Saturday
Given the outcome of Saturday’s session, Charles Leclerc was forced to revise his expectations for the race.
“Unfortunately, the scenario changes. We have the race pace, but we need to find clean air—and starting from sixth place is never easy,” he admitted.
Just 48 hours earlier, Charles Leclerc had expressed confidence in Ferrari’s ability to fight for victory at Silverstone. However, the reality of qualifying has now cooled those ambitions significantly.
