Ferrari’s qualifying session for the 2025 Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone ended with contrasting emotions for its two drivers. While Charles Leclerc expressed deep frustration following a disappointing sixth-place result, his teammate Lewis Hamilton took a more optimistic stance, highlighting the positives in his performance and the overall feeling with the Ferrari SF-25.
Charles Leclerc Frustrated After Missing Out on Front Row
Charles Leclerc did not hide his disappointment after Saturday’s qualifying session, which left him in sixth place on the starting grid. The Monégasque driver openly admitted that his performance cost him a chance at the front row and voiced his growing impatience with recurring issues.
“It definitely cost me the front row, no doubt about that,” Charles Leclerc said. “But to be honest, I’m getting tired of showing up and having to explain every time that something didn’t go right.”
Charles Leclerc also revealed that his connection with the car during qualifying is far from where it was one year ago, particularly highlighting difficulties in finding confidence with the Ferrari SF-25 over a single lap.
The 26-year-old explained that the team is aware of specific issues that are making qualifying more challenging than the race itself.
“We know where the problems come from, and I think we have the solution,” he noted. However, he was also clear in accepting personal responsibility:
“In qualifying, I’m not performing at the level I expect from myself. That’s something I need to work on because it used to be one of my strengths, but right now I’m really struggling.”
Lewis Hamilton Positive Despite Missed Opportunity
In stark contrast, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton finished fifth—just ahead of his teammate—and emerged from the session with a far more upbeat tone. The British driver was satisfied with his performance, even though a small mistake in the final corner likely cost him a better grid position.
“I feel good. I wanted to be further up, but that’s racing,” said Hamilton. “I had great sensations with the car—I felt really comfortable.”
Hamilton explained that he was one and a half tenths up on his best time heading into Turn 16, but a sudden moment of understeer caused him to lose momentum.
“We need to figure out what happened there, and I’ll discuss it with the team now. But I’m confident we can fight for something good tomorrow.”
Both Ferrari Drivers to Start from Third Row
Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton will start side by side from the third row of the grid on Sunday at Silverstone. The Monégasque is aiming to turn around a string of disappointing qualifying performances and put together a solid weekend, while Hamilton, buoyed by his strong feeling with the car and racing in front of his home crowd, will be targeting a podium finish.
