The past few months have been anything but easy for Ferrari following the disappointing 2025 season, and the same goes for Fred Vasseur, who faced widespread criticism for failing to meet the objectives set at the start of the year. For some time, whispers have circulated about a tense atmosphere inside Maranello, though Fred Vasseur has made it clear that the team remains united.
Recent attention has focused on the challenging environment in Ferrari’s Sporting Management. Departures from the team have drawn particular attention, especially those of Wolf Zimmermann and Lars Schmidt. Zimmermann, responsible for developing the power unit to be used next year, left under circumstances that caused concern. The 2026 car will serve as a key indicator of how the group adapts to such a major transition.
Fred Vasseur emphasizes Ferrari unity
Fred Vasseur stated, “It is true that it feels good to be united. We work as a team, and we have done so from day one. Of course, the season is not easy, but that is the life of a Formula 1 team. Working together and moving in the same direction is the best possible approach. It is also very rewarding when you experience a weekend like Austin. It started off quite difficult for us, but we recovered well, with everyone working together—both the trackside crew and those at Maranello. The fact that both drivers are united and aligned is very important.” He made these remarks during the Mexico press conference.
Of course, while misunderstandings and internal conflicts may exist within the team, Fred Vasseur cannot publicly discuss them. His role is to protect the image of the Scuderia and his management group, meaning the exact situation inside Maranello will likely remain unknown. Assessments of the team can only be based on on-track results. The 2025 season represented a significant setback for Fred Vasseur, who will need to play his cards carefully in 2026 to secure his future with Ferrari.
