After 22 races, the curtain has fallen on the 2023 Formula 1 season. A championship with some highs but also many lows for the Maranello team, which can boast of being the only one to have interrupted the incredible winning streak of the RB19 this year, but finished the championship in third place behind Mercedes. For Frederic Vasseur, in his first year at the helm of the prancing horse, it’s time to sum up the just-concluded season.
Frederic Vasseur’s Season Recap for Ferrari
“Red Bull did a better job in many aspects, while we lost something in terms of reliability, managing impeding, and other things,” began the Frenchman at the end of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. “If we focus only on one aspect, we won’t move forward. We need to improve in all details. We made progress in this end of the championship, so we will maintain the same mindset and approach for the next season.”
“I am convinced that we will be even more motivated, and step by step, we will take care of all the necessary details to win. We have experienced difficult moments, like in Miami or Zandvoort, but towards the end of the season, we scored more points than anyone else, except Red Bull, showing that we are doing well and can make a comeback.”
After a first part of the season decidedly below expectations, the men from Maranello worked hard during the summer break to find a solution to make the extremely capricious SF23 perform well.
Frederic Vasseur himself reiterated the concept that “a car capable of being fast on Saturday cannot but be fast on Sunday,” and this was evident in the last races. In this regard, the weekends in Singapore, Las Vegas, and Yas Marina bear witness to it, with Carlos Sainz winning the Marina Bay race in Singapore and Charles Leclerc being a major protagonist in the last two races.
Looking ahead to the next season, Fred Vasseur provided the first hints about the 2024 car: “The technical project will not be overhauled next season. Many details that need improvement will be better taken care of.”
“Finishing the season fighting with Red Bull is positive. With Charles Leclerc, we let Sergio Perez go to close the gap with George Russell for second place in the Constructors’. We didn’t succeed, but in the last eight weekends, we did well. If we think about how far we were from Mercedes a few months ago, confidence grows for the next year.”

Finally, a comment on Carlos Sainz’s anonymous race: “We must consider that our car has not always been easy to drive. This creates a lack of confidence and self-esteem on some occasions, as happened to Sainz in the last races. It’s a shame for him because with the medium tires in practice, he had a good pace.” – the French manager concluded.
