Ferrari prepares for Austin comeback
The past few weeks on track have been far from optimal for Ferrari, and the Maranello team now sits third in the Constructors’ Championship, having been overtaken by Mercedes, with a resurgent Red Bull looming threateningly behind. To these technical challenges have been added fresh rumors about a possible Christian Horner move—first reported by F1-Insider and later by the Daily Mail—which have understandably created additional uncertainty around Ferrari and the future of Frederic Vasseur, whose contract was renewed on July 31.
The next stop in the 2025 Formula 1 calendar is Austin, where Ferrari has previously triumphed twice. Kimi Raikkonen secured the team’s last win at the Circuit of The Americas in 2018, while in 2024 Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz delivered the most recent of Ferrari’s 87 F1 one-two finishes. It is also worth noting that Lewis Hamilton holds the all-time record at COTA with five wins and three pole positions.
Fred Vasseur’s outlook
“After two city circuits, with COTA we return to a permanent track that offers a very interesting mix of corners. It is a circuit that demands precision from everyone: from the team in terms of car setup, and from the drivers in terms of feeling with the car,” Fred Vasseur explained.
“The weekend will be even more challenging due to the Sprint format, which gives us only one practice session before immediately entering the competitive sessions. We know we haven’t fully exploited the potential of our package in recent races, but the team is united and fully determined to change direction.”
Fred Vasseur also commented on the recent rumours that he may be replaced by Christian Horner: “At the end of the day, this is mega negative for us. I know that we have to work with pressure, and we have to deal with pressure. It’s the DNA of our sport. But I think you have enough pressure on track to not get pressure at home. We know that we need to deliver. We need to get results.”
