Rumors about Fred Vasseur
The speculation surrounding Frederic Vasseur’s future, which began with Autosprint, Corriere della Sera, and Gazzetta dello Sport, reached the paddock in Montreal, and on Thursday both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc spoke out, highlighting the team principal’s key role within Ferrari. Fred Vasseur responded during Friday’s press conference, held between FP1 and FP2 of the Canadian Grand Prix.
Fred Vasseur’s harsh reply
“It’s not about all the Italian media, just a part of it. It’s not about me, because I know how to handle these things. It’s more about the people in the team. Throwing their names to the public like this is, in my opinion, disrespectful toward them and their families. Last year we had a similar situation with the head of aerodynamics.
This season other names have come out, and I don’t know what the goal is. I don’t understand it. Maybe the aim is to throw sh*t at the team, but in that case, I don’t see the point. Perhaps it’s their only way to stay relevant — that’s probably the main reason. But they’re really damaging the team, because at a certain point you lose focus. And when you’re fighting for the championship, every single detail makes a difference. Since the beginning of the weekend, everyone’s talking only about this. If their goal was to put the team in this situation, they’ve succeeded. But I don’t think you can win a championship like this. At least not with this kind of journalists around us.
When I accepted the job, I knew it meant being exposed, and I think it’s fairly easy to manage. It’s more about the people in the team: they’re working hard, and reading that this or that person will be replaced is pointless. These journalists — and I’m not lumping everyone together — need to consider that these people have families, wives, children, and this is completely disrespectful. Now I don’t want to talk about this stupid thing anymore.” – the French manager concluded ahead of the second free practice session for the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.
