Vasseur: “I don’t feel under threat. I speak to Elkann and Vigna every day, and they give me enormous support”
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has dismissed any suggestion that his position at the helm of the Scuderia is under threat, stressing that he enjoys the full confidence and daily support of Ferrari chairman John Elkann and CEO Benedetto Vigna.
Ferrari team principal confident about his future
Compared to the 2025 Formula 1 season, Ferrari has already taken a significant step forward in 2026. The Scuderia claimed victory at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, delivering Lewis Hamilton’s first win since joining the Maranello-based team, while the Briton has also been confirmed to remain with Ferrari for the 2027 season.
The SF-26 has shown impressive potential throughout the campaign and, at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, proved to be the benchmark car. The team led by Loic Serra has produced an excellent chassis, suspension package and mechanical platform. The only remaining area still requiring a major step forward is the power unit, which Ferrari hopes to significantly improve in 2027 as it continues its pursuit of another Formula 1 world title.
Fred Vasseur recently explained that the most important engine improvements will only be introduced for the 2027 season. Despite ongoing speculation surrounding his future, the Frenchman insists he does not believe his role on the Ferrari pit wall is at risk.
“Am I under threat? No, and I don’t think that way. I’m focused on giving my best this weekend, over the coming months and in the years ahead. I speak with John Elkann and Benedetto Vigna every day. They provide enormous support and they know everything that’s happening within the company,” Fred Vasseur said in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
“We are competing in one of the most competitive sports in the world, and we are fighting alongside Mercedes, Red Bull and McLaren,” he continued. “The most important thing is to keep everyone moving in the same direction, both during the good moments and the difficult ones, and to react as one team. The confidence shown by Ferrari’s leadership is important for everyone in the company because every single person plays a vital role in contributing to performance. Compared to last year, we have 62 more points, but my job is to keep asking for more.” – the French manager concluded ahead of the British Grand Prix weekend.
Frederic Vasseur’s reassurance therefore highlights a unified front within Maranello, despite the technical challenges still facing the SF-26. With strong backing from the top and a significant points increase over the previous year, the team is clearly focused on long-term growth and sustained performance.
