Fred Vasseur replied with a touch of irony after Mattia Binotto, the former Ferrari team principal, criticized the choice to replace Carlos Sainz with the seven-time world champion. Speaking in an intreview for the Italian daily newspaper *Corriere della Sera*, Mattia Binotto remarked, “I would never have signed Hamilton, but I think he made the right choice in going to Maranello. I understand and agree with his decision.”
Fred Vasseur doesn’t mince words in addressing Mattia Binotto’s criticism
Upon hearing Mattia Binotto’s comments, Fred Vasseur felt compelled to respond. “I don’t think Hamilton would have gone to Sauber,” he said jokingly. “I’m glad so many people have time to comment on our decisions. Personally, I’m focused on our work. After all, when I was at Sauber, I wasn’t talking about Ferrari.”
Fred Vasseur’s sharp tone was unmistakable. The Ferrari team principal has consistently rebuffed criticism of his team and, in particular, his decision to sign Lewis Hamilton, who is nearing his 40th birthday.
“I don’t believe his struggles this season were entirely his fault. Just look at the race he had in Las Vegas to see what Lewis Hamilton is made of,” Fred Vasseur emphasized. He also highlighted his long-standing connection with Hamilton, dating back to 2006 when they first worked together.
Ultimately, Fred Vasseur stands firm in his decision to bring the seven-time world champion to Maranello. With the countdown underway, it won’t be long before Hamilton takes to the track, finally wearing Ferrari red.
