At the end of Canadian GP qualifying, Fred Vasseur commented on the performance of “his” Ferrari.
It hasn’t been a straightforward start to the weekend for Ferrari and Fred Vasseur, with the team principal on Saturday in Montreal choosing to focus on commenting only on his drivers’ qualifying performance.
Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will start from fifth and eighth positions. A lot of misfortune for the Monegasque driver who, after a great first sector, made a mistake likely linked to the presence of Isack Hadjar in front of him and was forced to lift off the throttle.
The Scuderia will therefore be forced to fight back, and in doing so can rely on a good race simulation. Both drivers had the chance to carry out tests during free practice, showing that they had a competitive race pace.
Fred Vasseur’s words after Canadian qualifying
At the end of the session, the Ferrari Team Principal commented on his team’s performance. “There’s definitely some frustration. Up to Turn 5, Charles was a tenth quicker than Russell, so finishing eighth is not ideal. I think he was disturbed by the car in front of him and lost a bit of concentration. On the other side of the garage, Lewis had a good session and finished fifth,” said Fred Vasseur.
“The positive side is that the pace was there and we recovered compared to Friday. That’s encouraging for the race. This is a track where overtaking is possible and the data we have is promising. Both Charles and Lewis did good race simulations, and we’ll need to be good at putting everything together. We have to push and make up positions,” concluded the Team Principal of the Scuderia.
The race in Montreal will certainly be competitive and unpredictable, as all the top teams appear capable of fighting for the win. Additionally, the track layout, with three DRS zones, means there will likely be many overtakes, with strategy set to play a key role in the Grand Prix.
