Lewis Hamilton commented on the fifth place he secured in qualifying for the Canadian GP on a bitter Saturday for Ferrari.
After describing Friday as complicated, Lewis Hamilton managed to finish Canadian GP qualifying ahead of his teammate’s Ferrari. The Briton, fifth at the end of the session, capitalized on the mistake that prevented Charles Leclerc from fighting for pole to place his SF-25 on the third row.
Car number 44 will definitely try to gain a few positions on what is one of his favorite tracks. The goal will be to secure his first podium with Ferrari, after the Sprint win in China that had briefly raised the hopes of Ferrari fans.
Hamilton’s comments after qualifying
At the end of qualifying, Lewis Hamilton commented on his performance. “I think in the end we did the best we could. Throughout the weekend we’ve been searching for solutions to make us faster, but we can’t compete with the others. We have to accept it, especially since we’re not bringing updates unlike our rivals,” the Briton said.
“Charles was probably on a good lap and, even though he didn’t finish it, I’m not sure he would have made the front row. As for the medium tyre, we considered it but were convinced the soft was faster.”
“We hope to have a good race. I love this track and I hope I can fight for something meaningful starting from fifth. We have two new mediums and two new hards, which could be a small advantage over the others. I’m still chasing my first podium with Ferrari and I hope I can get it here,” Lewis Hamilton concluded.
Comments that once again go against those of Charles Leclerc and Fred Vasseur, as both had spoken of progress and expressed confidence ahead of the race. Points never mentioned by Lewis Hamilton, who hopes to soon be able to count on updates expected in the upcoming races.
