Ferrari’s 2025 Formula 1 season has had two sides to it, with Lewis Hamilton struggling and Charles Leclerc clearly in top form. Team Principal Fred Vasseur is aware of this but believes that closing the gap won’t take much. The ambitions of the Scuderia must absolutely not be dampened — quite the opposite.
In the opening races, Ferrari collected just one podium with Charles Leclerc at the Saudi Arabian GP and a Sprint win in China by Lewis Hamilton. Yet despite the qualifying gap to Red Bull and McLaren, Frédéric Vasseur remains confident: the SF-25 has the potential to fight all the way. “All the ingredients are there. Now we just need to combine them at the right time.”
Tiny margins, every detail counts
After Charles Leclerc’s podium in Jeddah, the French team principal reiterated that the priority is to find greater consistency throughout the entire weekend: “We have the race pace, but we need to be more solid from Friday through to qualifying. That’s where victories are built.”
Ferrari continues to lose three to four tenths in qualifying, but Fred Vasseur urges not to dramatize.
In an increasingly tight championship, even a few hundredths can change everything: “Today in F1, five hundredths can cost you six positions. We’re not far off, but perfection is needed.”
With the field so compact, starting position makes all the difference: “If you start fourth or fifth, you immediately fall into dirty air and the race gets complicated. We need to maximize every session.”
The race pace shown in Saudi Arabia confirmed that the SF-25 can fight on equal terms, but continuity is also needed from Lewis Hamilton, who has had an up-and-down start following the Sprint victory in Shanghai. Red Bull and McLaren remain formidable opponents, but the title is possible — provided nothing more is left on the table.
