According to recent reports from the RacingNews365 website, Jerome D’Ambrosio is said to be heading to Maranello after only a year at Mercedes.
Ferrari very active on the market
While the entire paddock is entangled in the internal dynamics of the Red Bull team, involved in a political battle without holds barred, Scuderia Ferrari is making moves. The Maranello team – as reported earlier today by the RacingNews365 website – would have secured another significant market move after the sensational signing of Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes for the 2025 Formula One season. In this case, the new face would also come directly from the Brackley team and would be a prominent figure in what was supposed to be the new direction of the silver arrows.
It would be, in fact, the former driver Jerome D’Ambrosio, who joined Mercedes just over a year ago and essentially acts as the ‘deputy Wolff’ in the team. It is no secret that he replaced the Austrian manager last year in the Qatar and Japan races when Toto Wolff stayed home for health reasons. The move made by Fred Vasseur is even more significant considering that Jerome D’Ambrosio is closely tied to the Wolff family, having worked for several years with Toto’s wife, Susie, within the Venturi team in Formula E.
Is a spot opening up for Helmut Marko’s arrival?
But if D’Ambrosio in Ferrari could have a role broadly comparable to the one previously occupied by Laurent Mekies, it is also interesting to note the position that is now vacant at Mercedes. D’Ambrosio, in fact, was also – indeed, especially – responsible for overseeing the young drivers on the Mercedes roster who compete in various series globally. He was, in fact, the Driver Development Director of the team.
A ‘talent scout’ role that would now be uncovered. It is impossible not to think, at least for a moment, about the comments of Toto Wolff, who, in a serious yet facetious tone, opened the doors to his compatriot Helmut Marko if the 80-year-old from Graz were to be shown the door by Red Bull. For now, these are only speculations, but given how the Formula 1 market has been evolving in recent weeks, nothing is to be excluded, not even deals that seemed impossible until a few months ago.
