The call comes from Jeddah, disrupted by the wind noise and interference. But what is said is very clear and straightforward: Adrian Newey and Ferrari have reportedly reached an agreement, according to Italian journalist Paolo Ciccarone. It is no secret that the arrival of the British engineer is at the top of the wish list for those in Maranello looking to strengthen the technical department with a major move. After the arrival of Lewis Hamilton, now Adrian Newey. In other words, the presence of the English driver is acting as a catalyst for other important arrivals. It is no secret that Fred Vasseur has long been in contact with other members of the Red Bull technical staff, starting with Pierre Waché, who was rumored to be arriving last year before the announcement of his three-year contract renewal.
Adrian Newey, who perhaps does not make the difference alone but can unite various visions within the working group. Someone who could bring creativity and innovation to the Maranello Racing Division. Assuming, of course, that he is given free rein for expenses at a time when Ferrari is closely monitoring costs and cutting up to 30 percent of some services deemed non-essential. Supporting this voice from the desert is the fact that there seems to be a settling of scores in Red Bull: the Christian Horner affair, which concluded as it may be considered, has most importantly highlighted a power rift in team management, with Helmut Marko somehow seeing his revenge in the last year of his presence in the Austrian team (he has renewed until the end of 2024).
Max Verstappen’s father, involved in the Christian Horner affair, seems more on a personal revenge quest than a technical one, and therefore, on such a basis, Adrian Newey may have nothing more to say in Red Bull. Accepting the allure of Maranello, eleven years after the almost-agreement, could be the missing link to the whole story. To be operational in Maranello, Adrian Newey should resign soon if he wants to be on the grid for the 2025 Formula 1 season, and it is clear that the results of his work may only be seen, perhaps, starting from 2026. We can only wait and see if the voice from the desert is concrete, as it often has been in the past, or if it’s just another result of sunstroke or a mirage due to the heat of a paddock in search of something to comment on.
