Accidents are part of the DNA of Formula 1, there is no doubt about this. Even during the current world championship we have seen a lot of them, from the most spectacular ones (and fortunately without consequences), to those a bit softer. However, even the latter have cost the Formula 1 teams a lot, so much so that at the moment it has reached a total 25 million euros in damage.
According to some recent estimates, Red Bull, Ferrari, Haas and Mercedes are the main teams to have raised the bar: each of them would exceed three million each. A figure that is beginning to worry the teams inside the paddock, if only because there are still several races until the end of the 2021 world championship.
THE MOST EXPENSIVE CONTACTS
Contrary to what one might imagine, the contact between Hamilton and Verstappen would not be among the most expensive this season. There are still no precise figures on the damage reported by the two cars, but at the moment Mercedes would have approached $ 500,000, while Red Bull about $ 360,000. Figures that, according to the dynamics of the accident, could have been much higher.
Paradoxically, Carlos Sainz is positioned between the two contenders in the world championship with his Ferrari. The crash during free practice on Saturday cost the Maranello team € 440,000. But not only. In the last few races, the Spaniard has repeatedly been involved in accidents that have seen his car destroyed. Adding up the three incidents of the last four races and those of Charles Leclerc, Scuderia Ferrari had to incur an expense of 4,266,000 dollars (just over 3,600,000 euros).

If Red Bull and Ferrari are the teams that currently have to deal with the most substantial expenses, the third place in this ranking is occupied by Haas. The ongoing struggle between Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin, spiced up also by the latter’s constant mistakes, cost the team $ 4,144,000. Unlike the main Formula 1 teams, “sleeping peacefully” are mainly Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso. The two drivers cost Alpine less than 340,000 euros.
