Back in the dark
After glimpsing the light that seemed to appear on the horizon during the first half of the previous season, Scuderia Ferrari now seems to have returned to the dark. The Maranello team, after five races in this 2023 Formula One season, sits in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship and has achieved only one podium finish thanks to Charles Leclerc, who came in third in Baku. The most successful team in the history of the sport has not celebrated a world title for over three decades and appears destined to not triumph in the coming years.
The appointment of Fred Vasseur
In recent years, the mantra of “we’ll win next year” has transformed from a strategic plan into a kind of self-ironic message exchanged among the red team’s own fans, trying to downplay the difficult situation in which the Prancing Horse seems to find itself, at least concerning the Formula 1 team.
Now, the task of reviving the fortunes of the Italian side has been entrusted to Frederic Vasseur, who has been in charge for a few months but has yet to make a clear technical turnaround for the Maranello team, except for the decision to distance several individuals closely linked to the previous management.
Stefano Domenicali’s lesson
Someone who knows well the pressure that comes with working for Scuderia Ferrari is Stefano Domenicali. The current CEO of Formula 1 was, in fact, an employee of the Maranello team for many years, even serving as team principal for several seasons before leaving in 2014. In a lengthy and in-depth interview with the Financial Times, the Imola manager also spoke about the red team, without going into the details of the current events but recalling the lessons learned when he was part of Ferrari, particularly during the golden era of the “triumvirate” of Jean Todt – Ross Brawn – Michael Schumacher.

“I learned that you can’t do anything alone,” Stefano Domenicali recalled, reflecting on his Ferrari adventure. “You need to have a good team. In that case, it was the best team ever.” The hope for all Ferrari fans is that this lesson can be somehow passed on to the current key figures of the Maranello team so that they can find a way to reverse a trend that has become increasingly negative in recent years.
