In a recent interview, Sebastian Vettel admitted that he has not yet completely closed the door on Formula 1, revealing what we might expect from his future involvement in the sport.
In recent months, there has been frequent speculation about a possible return of Sebastian Vettel to Formula 1. The four-time world champion has been linked to a managerial role, particularly as a potential successor to Helmut Marko as Red Bull’s motorsport advisor—a team with which Sebastian Vettel won four consecutive titles between 2010 and 2013. However, this possibility now appears to have cooled down. Helmut Marko himself explained that the demands of the position and the current phase of internal reorganization at Red Bull do not fit well with Sebastian Vettel’s current lifestyle.
“We didn’t proceed further because we were quite busy reorganizing the team within Red Bull Racing,” said the 82-year-old advisor. “Moreover, this is a full-time job; it’s not something you can do only for a few races. The profile we are looking for, I believe, is not suitable for him.”
Sebastian Vettel, who has already served as director of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association, does not rule out a future return to the paddock with new responsibilities:
“No, I would never return as a driver. Those days are over,” the German made clear immediately. “But perhaps taking on some role or function is absolutely conceivable. At the moment, however, I am quite satisfied with what I do and I am very busy.”
At the same time, rumors have circulated about the former champion’s possible interest in endurance racing and the World Endurance Championship (WEC). Sebastian Vettel downplays these speculations: “Once, I drove a car of that type because I found it interesting. It was fun, but so far nothing more has come out of it. But I still have a bit of time.”
For now, the four-time world champion enjoys his freedom away from the spotlight, but the door to Formula 1 remains slightly open.
