There were high expectations around Ferrari, fueled by last year’s results and media statements. However, the track provided a very different response, and the Prancing Horse returns to Italy with only 17 points in hand, the same as Williams. The Scuderia’s drivers had already finished the Australian GP outside the points, but it was too early to judge, given the unusual track and weather conditions.
Behind the scenes, however, the engineers had already realized that something wasn’t working. As reported by Franco Nugnes on the Motorsport podcast, Loic Serra quickly returned to Maranello without stopping in China to analyze the data collected during the first race weekend. In Shanghai, the terrible confirmation came for the public as well: the SF-25 is not performing as it should, a result of an incorrect dynamic setup that forces the engineers to lower the car significantly to improve performance. They are working on a delicate balance, as seen from the double disqualification last Sunday.
Now, at the factory, it’s a race against time to find a solution that at least brings them closer to Red Bull and Mercedes. According to some Italian sources, such as “La Repubblica,” Ferrari is aiming to bring the new floor to Suzuka, which was initially planned for the Bahrain GP. This is a clear sign of discontent even within the team, clearly disappointed by this start (and perhaps also by the results of the Bahrain tests, as no encouraging news came from there either). However, more information will be available next week.
