Today, Scuderia Ferrari is back on track at the historic Mugello Circuit in Tuscany to conduct a crucial filming day focused on testing one of the most highly anticipated upgrades to the SF-25 Formula 1 car: the newly developed rear suspension system. This new component has been specifically designed to address several of the balance issues that have emerged during the recent Grand Prix weekends.
According to information confirmed by the team, Ferrari will begin its on-track activities in the early hours of Wednesday morning, making the most of the limited testing window permitted under promotional event regulations set by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). Although officially labelled as a “filming day,” the session will carry significant strategic value, far beyond its promotional function. Both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will take turns driving the SF-25 during this important test session.
Ferrari aims for breakthrough ahead of Belgian Grand Prix at Spa
The main objective of this filming day is to evaluate the behavior of the updated suspension in real-world track conditions, just a few days before the official summer break and with the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps on the horizon. That race weekend is expected to mark the official competitive debut of this new suspension system, which could prove decisive for Ferrari’s performance in high-speed corners and in improving tire management—two areas that have consistently represented weaknesses for the Maranello-based team so far in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
The Mugello Circuit, with its sweeping corners and its wide range of required aerodynamic load levels, provides the perfect environment for a comprehensive shakedown of such a critical technical upgrade. The track’s characteristics offer meaningful data collection opportunities that will be invaluable in preparing for the challenges of the Spa-Francorchamps layout. For Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, it will be a valuable chance to experience the updated car before the next Grand Prix.
After a season that began with encouraging signs but has since been marked by inconsistency and fluctuating results, Scuderia Ferrari is placing a great deal of hope in this evolutionary step to reignite its competitiveness in the second half of the 2025 Formula One World Championship. The suspension package has been developed in parallel with intense simulator work and extensive analysis of telemetry and performance data gathered during previous races. The goal has been to create a system that adapts better to the variable characteristics of the most demanding circuits on the calendar.
Even though the FIA imposes strict limits during filming days—such as mileage caps and the mandatory use of special demonstration tires—the session will still offer an ideal first opportunity for dynamic validation of the suspension. Engineers present at the circuit and remotely connected from the Scuderia’s headquarters in Maranello will monitor the car’s setups, handling responses, and live telemetry to assess the effectiveness of the upgrade.
All eyes will therefore be on Mugello today, as this key test day is expected to serve as a pivotal moment for the SF-25 and for the remainder of Scuderia Ferrari’s 2025 campaign in the Formula 1 World Championship.
