The Mexican Grand Prix weekend allowed the Maranello team to regain the position just behind McLaren, thanks mainly to the 18 points collected by Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque driver finished right ahead of Max Verstappen, who in recent weeks had brought Red Bull closer to the intense fight between Ferrari and Mercedes.
McLaren under pressure in Brazil
According to analysis shared by Lawrence Barretto on Formula 1’s official channels, Red Bull will be the team to watch in the upcoming Brazilian Grand Prix. While McLaren has shown that its car can still dominate as it did in the first half of the season, the recent upgrades introduced by the Milton Keynes squad have significantly reduced the performance gap. The unpredictable weather conditions in São Paulo could also work in Max Verstappen’s favor.
“McLaren will need to be careful: Red Bull has closed the gap in terms of performance on high-downforce circuits, which means the papaya team probably won’t enjoy the same kind of advantage they had earlier this year when they won 12 of the first 15 races,” explained the Formula 1 presenter.
According to Lawrence Barretto, the Dutch driver could even be the outright favorite if rain arrives on race day, which current forecasts suggest is likely. Such a scenario could also boost Red Bull’s chances in the Constructors’ standings. “In terms of the teams’ championship, Red Bull could overtake Ferrari and Mercedes if Max Verstappen performs at his best and his teammate Yuki Tsunoda continues his upward trend,” Lawrence Barretto added.
