At the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season, Ferrari might change its braking system supplier after many years of collaboration with the Italian brand. The company, a specialist in braking systems, has had a special relationship with the Maranello team, holding exclusivity in this technical area since 1975. However, it seems that in 2025 this will change, with Ferrari no longer using Brembo for the entire braking system.
According to Auto Sport Web, the Ferrari team made this decision due to the arrival of Lewis Hamilton. The former Mercedes driver reportedly expressed a desire to introduce a new braking system supplier for his first Ferrari single-seater.
Negotiations with the new supplier began in early 2024, around the time Hamilton’s arrival at Maranello in 2025 was announced. Frederic Vasseur himself seems to have great confidence in the new supplier, Carbon Industrie, with negotiations ongoing throughout the year. Talks with the French manufacturer appear to be nearing conclusion. If these negotiations end positively, it would mark a true revolution for Ferrari.
The background of the new partnership
The arrival of Carbon Industrie at Ferrari will signify, as previously mentioned, a radical but not definitive change. In fact, the French manufacturer does not produce brake pads and calipers, meaning Ferrari might continue its collaboration with the Italian company for these components.
According to the Japanese website, Frederic Vasseur reportedly became furious over a leak regarding Ferrari’s 2025 braking system. The information was later compiled into an article by an Italian publication that described the new system in detail.
“Fred Vasseur, upon learning of the presence of a mole within the team, reacted promptly,” reports Auto Sport Web, “demonstrating his leadership and crisis management skills. At the same time, the fact that the journalist who wrote the article did not even have the courtesy to verify the authenticity of the information with the team’s press officer triggered his anger. This behavior prompted Fred Vasseur to take a decisive stance: he banned the publication from all events managed by his team and declared the ban would remain in place until the journalist is dismissed.”
Regarding the change in brake disc supplier from Brembo to Carbon Industrie, rumors intensified in the Abu Dhabi paddock. A spokesperson for the French company reportedly stated that negotiations are ongoing and progressing very quickly. Furthermore, a source from Carbon Industrie added: “Everyone knows that Lewis [Hamilton] wants Carbon Industrie brakes on his car.”
