After the Spanish Grand Prix podium ceremony, Ferrari’s men and women were eager to celebrate Lewis Hamilton’s victory in their own way, gathered in front of the team garage. Instead, the celebrations had to be put on hold as FIA technicians arrived to carry out inspections on car number 44, paying particular attention to the cold tyre pressures.
These were routine checks, some performed on every car and others only on drivers selected at random. Even so, the Ferrari team held its breath for a few moments, fearing the worst.
Lingering in the back of everyone’s mind was the memory of the United States Grand Prix two years ago, when Charles Leclerc was disqualified due to an irregularity involving the car’s floor. As a result, nobody at Ferrari was willing to celebrate too early.
In the end, however, there was nothing to report. The FIA inspections confirmed that everything was fully compliant, allowing the Scuderia to finally uncork the champagne and enjoy the moment after Lewis Hamilton’s landmark victory.
In addition to the race-winning Ferrari, the FIA also carried out detailed inspections on the cars of George Russell, Franco Colapinto and Liam Lawson as part of its standard post-race technical verification procedures.
In short, despite a brief moment of anxiety caused by memories of past technical disqualifications, the routine FIA inspections on Lewis Hamilton’s car cleared him of any irregularities, allowing Ferrari to safely proceed with their hard-earned celebrations.
