The two Ferrari drivers highlighted the difficulties faced during the F1 Dutch GP: a behind-the-scenes story reveals the work done by the Scuderia.
Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc finished qualifying in Zandvoort in sixth and seventh position. Both admitted they struggled behind the wheel of the SF-25. In particular, the Monegasque revealed that Ferrari tried to completely revamp the car before the F1 Dutch GP qualifying session.
Driver #16 took full responsibility for the result achieved in Q3. The lap was not acceptable, and fourth place was possible despite the car’s weaknesses exposed by this circuit. Hamilton, on the other hand, appeared fairly satisfied with the feeling he experienced over the weekend.
The change attempted by Ferrari
Through interviews with the media, including Scuderiafans.com, Leclerc discussed the work the team carried out to try to fix the setup. So far, the F1 weekend in the Netherlands has not brought particular satisfaction to Ferrari, which took a step back compared to previous events. The weather in the race will be decisive and could change the situation.
“I think the characteristics of this track highlight our weaknesses. For example, in corners 9 and 10, it’s incredible how much time we lose in that section, and there isn’t much we can do,” said the Monegasque. That’s exactly where McLaren makes the difference over all rivals thanks to an extremely precise front and a rear that follows perfectly.
Charles also revealed the attempt to find the ideal setup after Friday’s simulations: “We changed a lot on the car. One of the biggest changes of the season from one day to the next. This obviously doesn’t help with consistency over the weekend or in building the race weekend. It wasn’t easy, but it was what we had to do given such a complicated Friday.”
