Ferrari has now completly turned its attention to the 2026 Formula 1 season, marking a significant shift in strategy and technical organization within Maranello. The primary focus for the Italian side is now on developing a competitive chassis and advanced suspension system, with greater emphasis on integrating the power unit for optimal performance.
Fred Vasseur, Ferrari’s Team Principal, will be personally involved in every major decision regarding the 2026 Formula 1 car. This hands-on approach represents a departure from the previous horizontal management model introduced under Sergio Marchionne, where decision-making was more distributed across multiple departments.
The departures of high-profile consultants, including Wolf Zimmermann and Lars Schmidt, have reshaped the technical hierarchy. Enrico Gualtieri now has full control over the 2026 power unit program, ensuring a seamless integration with the chassis—a critical factor given the new regulations set for 2026.
Within Ferrari’s technical office, Loic Serra is set to play a pivotal role in the 2026 project. The Chassis Technical Director will work closely with head of aerodynamics Diego Tondi, forming one of the core leadership pillars alongside Frank Sanchez, who completes the trio of top technical figures guiding Ferrari’s future car development.
This restructured decision-making framework highlights Ferrari’s commitment to centralizing authority while streamlining communication between departments. By concentrating technical responsibilities among a smaller group of leaders, the Maranello team aims to enhance efficiency, reduce development errors, and maximize innovation as it prepares for the new era of Formula 1 regulations.
The combination of Fred Vasseur’s direct oversight and a clearly defined technical leadership team signals Ferrari’s determination to approach 2026 with a fully aligned strategy, leaving no room for ambiguity in the design and integration of their next-generation Formula 1 car.
