A former Ferrari Team Principal has spoken about why the Scuderia from Maranello has been unable to solve the issues it has been carrying with it for far too many years.
Despite the change of several Team Principals and the introduction of new regulations, Ferrari still seems unable to resolve the problems that have haunted the team for years, with the Tifosi constantly wondering why this situation continues.
The explanation from a former Team Principal
Maurizio Arrivabene, who led the Maranello team from 2014 to 2019, offered his perspective. “When you have lived inside the Scuderia, you know certain mechanisms, certain technical difficulties. A supercar is made up of five thousand components and you have four years to fine-tune it. A Formula 1 car has fifty thousand and you have six months. If you make a mistake, you carry it with you for almost the whole season and it is very difficult to fix. Vasseur is a serious person and he understands these things. I had an easier life because I spoke Italian and I was able to catch all the nuances, all the words and the ideas of everyone,” explained the former Team Principal during a long interview with Tuttosport.
As for the problems that have slowed Ferrari down in recent years, Arrivabene has no doubts. “We are a bit behind on composites and aerodynamics, because when it comes to engines, we still make the best ones. The English around the Oxford area have developed that kind of technology and they are ahead. So, in order to recover this gap made of tradition, but also of skills and universities that are very close to production, we have to work a lot. But we are getting there. Patience is needed, but Ferrari is on the right path. And that kind of progress can also serve the whole country, because in England thirty thousand people work in this field. It is not just about winning races, it is about advancing at an industrial level.”
