Ferrari loses 12 billion in a single day – was the stock market collapse expected?
The world’s most famous automotive brand suffered a massive stock market drop shortly after unveiling its first full-electric model. CEO Benedetto Vigna explained during the investor meeting: “I think people expected higher revenue, at least when listening to and reading the report. I mean, this is evident. But it is important to follow through on what we commit to. We cannot commit to something that we are not capable of achieving. I think the market noticed this aspect. I also believe there are opportunities, but we must plan them carefully, both in terms of revenue and margin. I believe this is what is happening. I don’t see it clearly, so I cannot say exactly what is happening.”
Thursday has been dubbed “Black Thursday” for Ferrari. The company’s shares lost more than 15% after revealing its financial targets for 2030, including net revenues of around 9 billion euros and an annual growth rate of 5%. This resulted in a 12-billion-euro drop in market capitalization. Maranello’s value returned to early 2024 levels, wiping out 20 months of impressive growth and leaving investors visibly disappointed. While the situation is likely to stabilize over time, it highlights that even a company as iconic as Ferrari needs the right decisions to remain at the top. Excelling both in F1 and in Endurance racing would certainly be an added advantage.
