On the eve of qualifying for the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix, Ferrari has already disclosed the Lift and Coast (LiCo) approach it intends to use during the race. Despite the excitement of a new race weekend, the Scuderia faces familiar challenges. Ferrari will once again rely on LiCo to prevent potential issues, with the strategy communicated to both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc during the free practice sessions.
Temperature management has been a major limiting factor for Ferrari throughout the 2025 season, as seen prominently at the Singapore Grand Prix. Considering the high altitude of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, employing every available tactic is crucial to avoid brake or power unit failures. Ferrari is therefore taking a proactive approach by preparing its drivers in advance.
Ferrari reveals strategy in advance
Minimizing potential penalties during the race requires finding the ideal LiCo strategy, which Ferrari has focused on during all three free practice sessions. On multiple occasions, race engineers Riccardo Adami and Bryan Bozzi communicated directly with the drivers over the radio, providing clear instructions on how to execute the Lift and Coast effectively.
Adami instructed, “Target 150 meters, lift and coast,” while Bozzi confirmed, “We will do 150 meters of LiCo.”
These precise directions offered to Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc not only prepared them for the high demands of the race but also foreshadowed what fans can expect to hear in the highly discussed LiCo team radios during the Grand Prix. Ferrari’s early communication emphasizes the importance of thermal management and strategic planning at one of the season’s most challenging circuits.
