Torrential rains and winds exceeding 100 km/h are enough to give an idea of the violence of the atmospheric phenomena that have hit northern Italy in recent days. And now, with the weather seemingly granting a respite, the damages are being assessed.
Among the cities most affected by the heavy rainfall is Monza. The Lombard capital has seen several buildings damaged, including the train station, which now finds itself without a roof, swept away by strong gusts of wind. Even the Monza Circuit has not been spared by the wind. As you know, the Brianza track is located within the Parco della Reggia di Monza. Among the several trees that fell within the city’s green lung, one collapsed onto the asphalt of the track.
As shown in the photo, the tree invaded the roadway at the entry to the Parabolica turn. While the asphalt seems to have suffered no damage, the same cannot be said for the protective fences lining the track. The weight of the tree caused them to collapse before falling onto the track. The underpasses that allow passage under the circuit are also partially flooded.
Yesterday, the Monza Circuit hosted a concert by Bruce Springsteen. As expected, there were controversies raised by those who believed that there were not enough safety conditions to host the over 70,000 people who came for the Boss’s performance. Nevertheless, the concert proceeded as planned, albeit with some issues in the dispersal of spectators in the Mirabello underpass area.
