Spanish engineer Iñaki Rueda was demoted before the start of the 2023 Formula 1 championship. A downsizing resulting from his ten-year work within the Maranello team at the head of the strategic department, mainly as a result of some questionable strategy decisions made by the Maranello pit wall during the previous Formula 1 season, which cost Charles Leclerc the race win on the streets of Monte Carlo and in Silverstone. Iñaki Rueda now has fewer responsibilities and was moved in a working group called remote garage, being replaced by Jain Ravin, as confirmed by Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur a few weeks ago.
Jain Ravin is seen as a brilliant British engineer of Indian descent and has begun the high-pressure job (as the head of strategy of the iconic car-maker’s F1 team) at the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix last month.
David Sanchez instead decided to leave Scuderia Ferrari. After a long period of work, when the gardening leave allows it, he will wear the sparkling McLaren papaya, a color that can be assimilated to a yellow-orange according to the most expert interior designers. A return to the past given his previous experience in Woking, this time as Technical Director, Car Concept and Performance.
At the same time, the operation includes the departure of James Key. The English engineer had distinguished himself as technical director in his time with Toro Rosso (he spent six seasons in Faenza), so much so that his arrival at the historic British team was seen as a great move for McLaren.
Unfortunately for them, however, this was not the case. On the contrary, the three projects that bear his signature are rather unsuccessful looking at the overall result. This context eventually led to his removal in the reorganization desired by the new team principal, Italian Andrea Stella.

There was no meeting between James Key and Ferrari, as confirmed by F1 expert Alessandro Arcari for funoanalisitecnica.com. The Italian team did not contact James Key. The management of Scuderia Ferrari first wants to keep the team united and then, eventually, understand if the current human resources require some additional figures. According to the information provided by funoanalisitecnica, at the moment, the opportunity to see the Briton in Maranello does not exist. On the other had, Enrico Cardile will most likely continue with Ferrari, having received reassurance from Frederic Vasseur that the team principal trusts his decisions and relies on his expertise for the development of the SF-23 car.
