Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc has called on the Maranello team to stay “realistic” regarding its form despite winning the last two races following Formula 1’s summer break.
Charles Leclerc secured his maiden career victory at Spa before following it up with a sensational win at Ferrari’s home circuit last time out, finally bringing an end to the Scuderia’s barren run. The Italian outfit sighted Spa and Monza’s high-speed nature as its best chance of success having designed its 2019 challenger based around straight-line speed gains.
While it played a major role in guiding Leclerc to back-to-back race wins, the SF90 is known to be susceptible at high downforce tracks compared to rivals Mercedes and Red Bull.
With this in mind, Charles Leclerc isn’t expecting any miracles as he predicts a tough weekend at the Marina Bay circuit.
“We need to stay realistic. I think we expected that Spa and Monza would be very good races for our car but we also know that the next few races will be a lot more difficult for our car,” Leclerc said, as quoted by Crash.net – “So, we need to be realistic and, yeah, it’s not going to be easy. I think especially Singapore. I think it will be a nice surprise if we are better than what we expect – but what we expect – but we expect to struggle there. We’ll see in two weeks.”
Charles Leclerc heads to Singapore fourth in the world championship standings on 182 points, moving ahead of team-mate Sebastian Vettel.
