Lewis Hamilton Arrives at Zandvoort Seeking Revival Amid Struggles with Ferrari in 2025
Ferrari F1 driver Lewis Hamilton has arrived at the Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort determined to regain focus and silence the growing criticism surrounding his difficult first season with the Maranello team. The former Mercedes man aims to block out the external pressure and rediscover the joy of racing, after a challenging start to his tenure with the Scuderia.
Through the first 14 rounds of the season, the Briton has yet to secure a Grand Prix podium with Ferrari, accumulating just 109 points—a career-low in the hybrid era since the introduction of the current F1 points system in 2010. This underwhelming performance has fueled speculation about his future, with former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone publicly suggesting that Hamilton consider retirement given his 2025 struggles.
Before joining Ferrari, Hamilton had consistently secured at least one podium in the first ten rounds of every season in his 19-year Formula 1 career. However, his difficulties reached a new peak before the summer break, highlighted by controversial remarks at the Hungarian Grand Prix where Hamilton implied Ferrari “needed to change driver.”
The Paddock Wonders Where Lewis Hamilton’s ‘Magic’ Has Gone
Ferrari fans and F1 analysts alike have started questioning where Hamilton’s once-unparalleled racecraft and “magic” have disappeared to. His self-criticism reached a new level at the Hungarian GP, where he described himself as “useless” after qualifying 12th and finishing in the same position, marking his first non-scoring finish for Ferrari with ten races still remaining in the season.
According to F1 journalist Andrew Benson, even Lewis Hamilton seems uncertain about the decline in his form, which some suggest began during his final season at Mercedes. Benson explained on BBC’s Chequered Flag podcast that Hamilton’s uncharacteristic mistakes, such as a track limits violation during Q1 in Spain, are unprecedented in his career. The wider paddock now wonders aloud: “Where has Lewis Hamilton’s magic gone?” a reflection on his consistent brilliance being absent over the past 18 months.
Hamilton’s Chance to Reignite Form Ahead of 2026 Regulations
Despite the scrutiny, Mercedes driver George Russell has defended his former teammate, arguing that Lewis Hamilton’s self-deprecation was “nonsense.” Russell pointed to Hamilton’s victory in the F1 Sprint at Shanghai in March as evidence that the Briton still possesses the skill and pace to compete at the highest level. While the Shanghai Sprint showcased Hamilton’s potential, his Grand Prix finishes have not yet matched those flashes of excellence, with a best result of fourth place in Imola, Austria, and Britain.
Following the summer break, Hamilton and Ferrari have had time to reset mentally and physically after the disappointing Hungarian GP weekend. With ten races remaining in the 2025 season, Lewis Hamilton aims to prove that Russell’s confidence is justified and to build momentum heading into the 2026 technical regulations. Achieving consistent performance in the final rounds of 2025 could be pivotal for the Briton, both in terms of points and in regaining the driving confidence that has defined his record-breaking career.
