Oliver Bearman experienced one of the most emotional moments of his young Formula 1 career during the Silverstone weekend after driving the iconic Lotus Renault 97T, the car in which Ayrton Senna claimed his maiden Formula 1 victory at the unforgettable rain-soaked Portuguese Grand Prix in Estoril back in 1985.
An iconic Lotus
On Monday, July 6, the Haas driver had the opportunity to take the wheel of one of the most legendary cars in Formula 1 history at his home circuit of Silverstone. It was a truly unforgettable occasion for the young British driver, who was visibly moved by the privilege of experiencing such an important piece of motorsport history.
Bearman overcome with emotion
“It’s incredibly special to be here and to be able to drive it in a few hours. I’m over the moon and, yeah, it’s crazy just to see it,” the Ferrari junior said before heading out onto the circuit.
After completing a few laps behind the wheel of the Lotus 97T, Oliver Bearman returned to the pit lane overwhelmed with emotion. He stopped the car sobbing and in tears, needing a few moments before he was able to climb out of the iconic cockpit.
When he finally stepped out of the car, the 21-year-old was still shaking and struggling to find the words to describe what he had just experienced. Seeing such a young Formula 1 driver so deeply moved by the history and significance of the legendary machine he had just driven was a powerful reminder of the true spirit and enduring soul of motorsport.
