Ferrari hires Carlos Sánchez Martínez as chassis specialist
The move adds another experienced specialist to Ferrari’s technical recruitment programme. Carlos Sánchez Martínez arrives with substantial expertise in chassis stress engineering, developed throughout his time with Racing Point and Aston Martin.
His appointment also places him within the chassis structure overseen by technical director Loïc Serra, whose career and responsibilities at Ferrari cover one of the most important areas of the Formula 1 operation.
A message of gratitude after almost eight years
Carlos Sánchez Martínez published the following farewell message in full:
“After almost eight years, the Silverstone Grand Prix marked my final race weekend with the Aston Martin F1 Team — Racing Point when I arrived.
“It has been an absolutely incredible period of my life, shared with extraordinary people and some of the greatest drivers in the history of this sport. Together, we celebrated numerous podiums, one victory and one pole position.
“When I joined the team, I thought the most exciting part of this journey would be the work itself. As time passed, I realised that the most rewarding part was sharing this experience with my team-mates and continuing to grow together, through both the good moments and the more difficult ones.
“I have been incredibly fortunate to share this adventure with exceptional colleagues and enormously talented people, from whom I have learned so much over the years.
“I am truly grateful for this chapter of my life in green. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Now it is time to take on a new challenge in Formula 1, with a new team and new colours.”
From university engineering to Ferrari
The career of Carlos Sánchez Martínez reflects steady progress within motorsport engineering. Between 2016 and 2018, he conducted research and teaching activities in Mechanical Engineering at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. He also served as Chief Engineer and Vehicle Dynamics Section Leader for Formula UC3M, contributing to the development of the university team’s single-seaters.
He subsequently joined Oxford Brookes Racing, where he worked as Head of Chassis Section for several months before making the significant step into Formula 1.
In May 2019, Carlos Sánchez Martínez joined the team then known as Racing Point as a Junior Stress Engineer. Following its transformation into Aston Martin, he continued to progress through the Silverstone organisation and became a Stress Engineer, a position he held from September 2022 until July 2026.
During his time at Silverstone, the Spanish engineer experienced one of the most important periods in the team’s recent history. He contributed to a series of results that included several podium finishes, a victory and a pole position, as he recalled in his farewell message.
His move also adds another chapter to the flow of technical personnel between Maranello and Silverstone. Former Ferrari technical director Enrico Cardile previously moved in the opposite direction to Aston Martin, while the British team has continued to recruit specialists with extensive experience across Formula 1.
