At Ferrari, the pressure shows no signs of easing, and Team Principal Fred Vasseur continues to face mounting criticism following yet another disappointing weekend for the Scuderia. But is his future really at risk?
The Baku Grand Prix left a wave of controversy in its wake for Ferrari, with Fred Vasseur once again in the spotlight after a performance far below expectations. The final results, an eighth and ninth place, were a long way from the team’s pre-race ambitions. The Azerbaijan race had been presented as a prime opportunity to finally secure Ferrari’s first win of the season. Yet, once again, the outcome raised more questions than answers.
Words weighing heavily on the Team Principal: “He doesn’t understand where he is”
Since the Monza weekend, Fred Vasseur and his drivers had hinted at optimism, raising fans’ hopes for a turning point. However, in Baku, the Italian side’s performance abruptly reminded everyone of reality, opening a new chapter of criticism regarding the Frenchman’s management. The gap to the top remains evident, and post-race explanations were not enough to quell the frustration of those expecting much more.
The debate extended beyond the paddock. On the podcast Terruzzi Racconta, journalist Pino Allievi directly criticized the Frenchman in particularly harsh terms. He stated that “Hamilton is struggling with the situation at Ferrari and can’t figure it out. I also spoke with Piero Ferrari, who told me that Lewis still doesn’t fully understand what Ferrari is. But who was supposed to explain it to him? Vasseur. Yet Fred Vasseur is the first who hasn’t fully grasped which team he is in. Someone should give him a course to explain the mechanics and mentality.”
Despite the criticism, Fred Vasseur still benefits from a multi-year contract, which currently provides a degree of stability. Nevertheless, his future at the helm of Ferrari will inevitably depend on the results in the coming seasons. With 2026 approaching and a regulatory revolution on the horizon, it will be crucial for Ferrari to be on par with its main rivals. Another misstep could transform Fred Vasseur’s seemingly secure position into one of the most debated in the entire paddock.
