A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck southern Türkiye’s Kahramanmaras province early Monday and another magnitude 7.6 quake hit the same area in the afternoon. Speaking in Hatay province, close to the epicentre of the quakes, the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, said the number of people confirmed dead in Turkey had increased to 9,057, Reuters reports. Syrian officials and a rescue group in rebel-held north-west Syria have confirmed the death toll there has reached 2,662, bringing the combined tally to 11,719. Over 3,400 others were wounded in the quakes.

Carlos Sainz conveyed its sincere condolences and expressed solidarity with Türkiye and Syria for the victims of the devastating quakes.

In a post on his social media accounts, the Scuderia Ferrari driver wrote:

“Still terrified by the news and images that keep coming from Turkey and Syria after the devastating earthquake. All my thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected and with the families of the victims.”
