The death toll in Turkey and Syria has surpassed 12,000 people in the world’s deadliest earthquake disaster in more than a decade. The number of victims is climbing quickly two days after earthquakes leveled cities and towns in both countries. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in his country’s earthquake-shattered south on Wednesday as rescue workers in neighboring Syria said that they had found colleagues among the dead.
Turkey’s government has appealed for international help in the aftermath of Monday’s earthquakes, which have killed more than 12,000 people in Turkey and Syria.
Onur and Eftalya Kurt, father and daughter Ferrari fans who lived in Hatay, Türkiye, were among those who tragically lost their lives in the earthquakes that happened in Türkiye and Syria. Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc saw the message posted on a Twitter Ferrari fan account and reacted to the sad news, while also posting a retweet for supporting AHBAP financially.
AHBAP is a Turkish organization which describes itself as a “cooperation movement that works with value systems based on solidarity, sharing, and belonging.”
The network provides “all kinds of aid” to those in need, including cash transfers and in-kind support. Through their support, they look “to create contemporary and sustainable networks of cooperation and solidarity” that uses new models that ensure they “protect local cultures.”
Donations can be sent through their website as well. The organization has also created and will update a list of community centers and businesses that have opened their doors to those seeking refuge.
