Oliver Bearman has made it clear that driving for Ferrari remains his ultimate Formula 1 ambition, even as he moves closer to continuing his career with Haas. The Ferrari Driver Academy prospect believes he has earned the opportunity to compete for one of the championship’s leading four teams and feels ready to fight for podiums, but his immediate future still depends on unresolved contractual matters.
The British driver is expected to remain with Haas for the 2027 season, although an agreement has yet to be finalised. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton’s return to competitive form at Ferrari has complicated what once appeared to be a more straightforward route into the Maranello team’s Formula 1 line-up.
Oliver Bearman gives update on Haas contract negotiations
Speaking to reporters during Thursday’s media activities ahead of the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Bearman addressed the uncertainty surrounding his next contract. Despite the absence of a completed agreement, the 2005-born driver indicated that both he and Haas are firmly committed to maintaining their partnership.
He explained that the remaining matters are predominantly contractual and fall outside his direct control. While naturally eager to secure the best possible outcome, the young Briton acknowledged that the final details would be handled by his management and the American team.
That position reinforces the expectation that Bearman will remain with Haas next season. The team has also expressed its desire to continue working with the Ferrari-backed driver, with Ayao Komatsu previously outlining Haas’s commitment to Oliver Bearman’s development.
For now, the arrangement would allow Bearman to continue gaining Formula 1 experience in familiar surroundings. However, the prospect of remaining with a midfield team does not diminish his determination to progress towards the front of the grid.
Ferrari remains Oliver Bearman’s ultimate Formula 1 goal
Although satisfied with his current environment, Bearman made a distinction between where he wants to race among the midfield teams and what he hopes to achieve over the medium and long term. He considers Haas his preferred destination within the midfield and remains pleased to be competing in Formula 1.
His ambitions nevertheless extend considerably further. The British driver explained that he now feels capable of fighting for podium finishes and leading positions, arguing that his performances have earned him the opportunity to target a place with one of the championship’s top four teams.
Ferrari naturally occupies a special position in those plans. His connection with the Scuderia through its driver development programme makes the Italian team his ultimate destination, although he recognised that the outcome remains uncertain.
The ambition is consistent with Oliver Bearman’s earlier comments about his dream of becoming a Ferrari Formula 1 driver. His relationship with Maranello remains an important element of his career, even while Haas provides the opportunity to establish himself on the grid.
Bearman’s comments therefore underline two priorities rather than a contradiction. He wants to continue building his career with Haas in the immediate future, but he also believes the next major step should eventually involve fighting for results at the front of the field.
Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari resurgence complicates Bearman’s prospects
One of the biggest uncertainties surrounding Bearman’s ambitions is the availability of a future race seat at Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton’s arrival in Maranello in 2025 altered the British youngster’s prospects, and the seven-time world champion’s return to stronger form following a disastrous previous season has made the situation more complicated.
What had once looked like a potentially accessible route into Ferrari’s Formula 1 team is consequently much less certain. With Hamilton again delivering competitive performances, there is no guarantee that a vacancy will become available when Bearman is ready to take the next step.
The question of how the Italian team accommodates its emerging talent has already become an important subject, particularly as Lewis Hamilton’s contract situation creates decisions for Ferrari’s future driver line-up.
Bearman has not suggested that he intends to abandon his Ferrari ambition. However, his desire to compete for a leading team could eventually create alternative possibilities if the Scuderia cannot offer him a seat within his preferred timeframe.
Could Oliver Bearman pursue an F1 seat outside Ferrari?
The situation becomes especially relevant when looking towards 2028. If Bearman continues to impress and Lewis Hamilton remains in a Ferrari race seat at that stage, the young driver’s prospects of joining another leading team could increase.
That would represent a significant career decision for a driver whose long-term ambitions have remained closely connected to Maranello. Nevertheless, Bearman’s comments make clear that his desire to fight for podiums is not limited to waiting indefinitely for an opportunity with one particular team.
Other potential destinations have already featured in discussions about his future, including speculation linking Oliver Bearman with Red Bull. Those possibilities remain separate from his immediate contract discussions with Haas and do not establish that a move elsewhere has been agreed.
For the moment, Bearman’s priorities remain closely connected to continuing with Haas and developing his Formula 1 career. Yet his ambitions are unmistakable: the Ferrari Driver Academy prospect believes he is ready to compete at a higher level, with a future in red still his preferred outcome.
