The tunnel of bad luck, errors and problems that Ferrari seems to have entered since the home Grand Prix in Imola is not yet over. In Baku, the Maranello team paid the price for their reliability issues once again, finishing the race well before the checkered flag, with both F1-75 cars of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, as they were both to retire due to technical problems.
The Spaniard was the first to abandon the race as a result of a hydraulic failure. Shortly after, there was a similar fate for Charles Leclerc, at that moment leader of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku. The power unit, which blew up under the Azerbaijani sun, once again broke the Monegasque’s dreams of glory.
The great disappointment for the result of the Azerbaijani race overwhelmed all the Ferrari fans of the Maranello team, even the most illustrious ones. Among these there is Lapo Elkann, who is always very involved in the events of the Italian side and very often also present in the paddock alongside the men of the Maranello team. In a tweet posted on his official Twitter account while the race was still underway, immediately after the retirement of Charles Leclerc, the brother of John Elkann, president of Ferrari, expressed all his disappointment. “It’s very painful – wrote Lapo Elkann – it’s time to go back to work just like at the beginning of the championship. And always Forza Ferrari… without denying that today I am very sad”
Regret, therefore, but also the attempt to help the team react after five extremely negative races from the point of view of the results on the track.
