In Formula 1, you have to be competitive every weekend. Even Enzo Ferrari believed that the most important win was always the next one. But looking at Ferrari’s current disappointing performance, it seems the team led by Fred Vasseur no longer shares this philosophy. The SF-25, introduced as the car that would win both championships, is proving to be a car full of issues that are significantly undermining its competitiveness on track.
Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc appeared visibly disheartened in post-race interviews after the Miami Grand Prix, where they finished seventh and eighth following a race filled with heated team radio exchanges.
This situation reflects a tense atmosphere within Ferrari, with Fred Vasseur preaching calm while increasingly becoming the target of criticism from insiders. The former Alfa Romeo boss is now in his third season with the team—the first following a major technical overhaul. Over the past two years, several key figures have both joined and left the Scuderia, and the failed pursuit of Adrian Newey continues to stir debate. The British design genius, long linked to Ferrari, ultimately chose to join Aston Martin, dashing the hopes of fans who had envisioned him alongside Lewis Hamilton.
Even “the chef” is at risk
In this context, the next to potentially leave Ferrari could be Fred Vasseur himself. “The chef,” as he’s often been nicknamed by Ferrari fans, has yet to deliver results, opening the door to a possible shake-up in leadership. According to Damon Hill, the former Alfa boss may soon find himself under fire, given the many preseason promises that have already been broken just a few races into the year.
“I think Fred is starting to feel the pressure. He had his period where everything seemed to be going well, but now they really don’t seem competitive anymore. It’s not acceptable that Ferrari is being beaten by Williams—with all due respect to what James Vowles’ team is doing. Hamilton and Leclerc should be fighting for the title, no doubt,” said the former driver on the Chequered Flag podcast.
