The hopes of the Scuderia Ferrari for the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend are to confirm the progress seen in Canada, Austria, and Silverstone, trying to perform better in terms of executing the work plan. The Italian side still lacks the ability and opportunity to put together trouble-free practice sessions, a cleanly managed Qualifying, and a race read in the correct way. In short, a weekend of a top team that Frederic Vasseur’s side has not yet demonstrated to be capable of, except for the Baku City Circuit, where all the pieces fell into place and important results were achieved, with a podium finish for Charles Leclerc.
The upper flap of the front wing has been modified to have more downforce and find a better balance for Hungary. Enrico Cardile and the aerodynamics department led by Diego Tondi have not introduced any major developments for the Budapest event, after Canada and Austria, where the SF-23 showed visible progress resulting from the work started in the early season tests.
The SF-23 Evo has demonstrated improvement in managing porpoising and being able to travel with more suitable setups as determined by the simulator. In Maranello, they managed to make the car more predictable and ‘faithful,’ giving more confidence to the drivers. However, some adaptation and evolution will be seen in Hungary, especially on the new front wing, as explained by F1 experts Paolo D’Alessandro & Giuliano Duchessa in a recent article for formu1a.uno.
The Hungaroring track was originally a circuit requiring maximum aerodynamic load, while in recent years there has been a trend towards medium-high downforce setups. At the moment, the Maranello team is proposing the rear wing seen in Monaco, mounted in the pits, while in the pit lane, two different front wing configurations were spotted. The evolution introduced in Austria has been confirmed, but the upper flap is modified. Compared to the original version, it has a less steep and more progressive drop from the center towards the endplate, increasing the chord of the flap, providing more front load.

In Monaco, the SF-23, not yet evolved, did not give great sensations to the drivers. In high-speed sections, the car was severely limited by porpoising, and in slower or prolonged corners, the understeer caused by a weak front end made the SF-23 slower than its competitors, significantly limiting its performance. In Maranello, much work has been done to achieve this objective: obtaining more front load and having a better balance between the front and rear, especially when searching for more aerodynamic load.
