Ferrari, Frederic Vasseur finds his smile again
Despite a season start that has been far from positive for Ferrari, at least according to winter expectations, Frederic Vasseur seems to have found his smile again. Perhaps it’s also thanks to Charles Leclerc’s encouraging performance during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix weekend in Jeddah, which allowed the SF-25 to break its podium drought in a “long” race. Thus, the team principal of the Scuderia is back to joking and smiling during routine interviews: the opportunity arose for a video made for Formula 1’s social media channels, during which the French manager and engineer showcased his humor, which has made him well-known in the GP paddock over the years.
The surreal interview on F1’s social media channels
Frederic Vasseur began by revealing that his codename is “George Clooney,” explaining that the reason behind it is “related to coffee,” recalling a famous coffee brand’s advertisements in which the U.S. actor starred in recent years. More laughter came when he admitted to calling Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton “Charlo and Lulù,” then begging the interviewer not to use the nicknames that the team principal habitually uses with his two drivers. Another particularly amusing moment occurred when Frederic Vasseur said his biggest fear was… “Skipping dinner.”
Briefly getting serious, Fred finally revealed the name of the F1 driver, in the 75 years of the sport’s history, he would have liked to manage as team principal: “Jean Alesi, I would have really liked working with him.” A surprising name, especially since motorsport giants like Michael Schumacher or Ayrton Senna were not mentioned, but instead a driver who, in his own way, became an icon due to his deep love for Ferrari, and for his driving talent that coincided with a very difficult and lengthy period for the Maranello team.
Jean Alesi, who is currently participating in the historic French GP alongside Charles Leclerc, is now 60 years old and raced in F1 between 1989 and 2001, achieving just one career win, with Ferrari, in the 1995 Canadian Grand Prix.
