Scuderia Ferrari had planned to return home and make the most of its second Filming Day before heading to the Netherlands for the next round of the 2021 Formula One season at Zandvoort circuit. The SF21 car took to the Fiorano track, driven by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz who exploited the total of 100km which are allowed for commercial purposes – a preparation which, judging by the medium-high downforce set-up, is also focused on the work needed for the Zandvoort Grand Prix. At the same time, most like the Maranello team used some parts of the upgraded power unit that Ferrari intends to bring for the Turkish Grand Prix in October.
The characteristics of the Dutch circuit would seem, at least on paper, partially favorable to the Scuderia; a track with a medium-high level of downforce and a couple of slow corners where the SF21 should be comfortable. It will then be necessary to see how the faster ones will affect the car’s balance and especially tire management — although at Silverstone, a similar circuit in terms of front left stress levels, the Maranello team managed to cope effectively.
It will therefore be necessary to work hard on Friday during the free practice sessions at Zandvoort circuit and collect as much data as possible in order to achieve the best balance for the set-up ahead of the qualifying session on Saturday, taking into consideration the difficulty in overtaking at this track.
Let us really hope that the rain, a threat that seems to persist for the entire duration of this post-holiday Triple Header, does not wash away all their efforts once again.
