The somewhat surprising Ferrari completed its second filming day with the SF21 at Fiorano today. The two drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, took turns at the wheel of the Maranello team’s car for the 2021 Formula 1 season to complete the 100 km that the FIA grants to teams for commercial shooting.
Taking the opportunity to hit the home track between two back to back races (Belgium and Holland) suggests that in Maranello wanted to carry out (even for a simple run) the 065/6 EVO engine which will make its debut most likely the Turkish Grand Prix. Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto discussed about the engine update in a chat with the media ahead of the summer break.
The Formula 1 regulations say that the car to be used on a fiming day must be the same one that has already raced, without any updates and must run with Pirelli demo tires in order to avoid that the work on the track can be used for the development of the car.
All true, however, the engine used in Fiorano is mechanically the same as the one used in Spa-Francorchamps, but almost certainly it had adjustments to the hybrid system, oil and fuel which should guarantee an increase in power of about ten HP starting with the Turkish Grand Prix.
The track time at Fiorano was used to get a first impression of the new package that will not be seen before the Istanbul race: someone hoped that the debut of the updated power unit could already take place in Monza, but the Maranello team did not have the time necessary for the production of the new parts.
