Ferrari and Frédéric Vasseur are reportedly on the verge of finalizing a new agreement that would see the French engineer continue as team principal of the Maranello-based Formula 1 team through the 2026 season. After months of speculation and uncertainty surrounding his position, the Italian team appears to have opted for continuity and long-term planning during a crucial phase of transformation for the sport. The news was reported by Italian journalist Fulvio Solms in the latest edition of Autosprint.
Frédéric Vasseur took over the reins at Scuderia Ferrari in early 2023, succeeding Mattia Binotto, and has since been tasked with rebuilding the team’s competitiveness. Despite a challenging 2025 season so far—characterized by underwhelming race performances, inconsistent results, and only a few podium finishes—Ferrari seems intent on maintaining stability at the helm rather than opting for another leadership overhaul.
This current campaign, which includes the star-studded driver lineup of seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and the Monegasque talent Charles Leclerc, has fallen short of the high expectations. While there were brief flashes of hope, such as Hamilton’s masterful Sprint Race victory in China, the Scuderia has not yet come close to securing a full Grand Prix win in 2025. However, optimism remains that an upturn in form could begin at the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix.
At the historic Spa-Francorchamps circuit, Ferrari is expected to introduce a revised rear suspension setup—already evaluated during a private test session at Mugello—which should improve the SF-25’s versatility and performance window. One of the key weaknesses of this year’s car has been the narrow setup range, which often limited its effectiveness across different tracks. The technical updates aim to reduce this issue and allow Ferrari to close the gap to rivals like McLaren in the current championship.
Looking further ahead, the sweeping technical regulation changes coming in 2026 will redefine the Formula 1 landscape. With these looming transformations, Ferrari’s leadership decided that retaining Frédéric Vasseur at the helm offers a strategic advantage. His experience, calm leadership, and long-term vision are seen as essential in navigating the transition successfully. In this context, the involvement of Jerome D’Ambrosio—Ferrari’s deputy team principal and one of Fred Vasseur’s trusted allies—has also gained increased importance, particularly in shaping the team’s future driver and technical lineups.
Although the precise length and terms of the new contract have not yet been disclosed, it is assumed that this is not just a short-term renewal. Ferrari is aiming to build a sustainable, long-term project, and Vasseur is now considered a key figure in this roadmap. As such, a one-year extension would likely fall short of expectations. Instead, the plan is to provide the team principal with the stability and resources needed to shape Ferrari’s next era in Formula 1.
By choosing to reaffirm their trust in Frédéric Vasseur, Ferrari is making a deliberate move toward consistency in a sport where leadership turnover can often derail progress. This decision reflects not only satisfaction with the recent technical developments but also a deeper understanding that success in modern Formula 1 demands patience, vision, and continuity. And for now, Vasseur appears to embody all three.
