The weekend at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, commonly known as Imola, was supposed to be marked by the arrival of a new upgrade package that should have allowed Scuderia Ferrari to get closer to Red Bull in terms of performance, especially on Sunday. The cancellation of the Emilia Romagna GP forced the Maranello team to postpone the updates to the Barcelona weekend, while modifications related exclusively to the track layout were made in Monaco for this weekend’s race in Monte Carlo.
The reason for this choice was explained by the Maranello Team Principal in a press conference held in the Ferrari motorhome ahead of the next round of the 2023 Formula 1 championship: “There won’t be any major updates in Monaco since it is a very particular circuit. We want to focus more on drivability and the car’s setup.” – the French manager explained.
Therefore, no major changes are expected for the SF-23 during Charles Leclerc’s home weekend. In contrast to Scuderia Ferrari, Mercedes has decided to bring an important package in the hope that the W14 can become competitive again for top positions.
“We were supposed to introduce a new package in Imola, but now we will do it in Barcelona,” added the former Alfa Romeo team principal. “Our intention is not to bring significant updates every five races, but rather to make small modifications every weekend. This means that new parts will also arrive in Montreal,” concluded Frederic Vasseur.

Therefore Scuderia Ferrari is trying to change the approach that was followed during the Mattia Binotto era. The former team principal stated several times last season that it was not convenient to introduce small adjustments every race, especially due to the limitations imposed by the budget cap.
According to FIA accredited Formula 1 Journalist Giuliano Duchessa,”the aerodynamic upgrades that Ferrari is bringing next week are described to be ‘very visible’” – the Italian F1 analyst posted on Twitter.
